Energa Sopot Classic 2016
The sixth edition will be an important event on cultural map of the Tricity during this-year’s summer tourism season. Our festival is defined by exceptional richness of the programme, the highest quality of the artistic performance and above all, beautiful music. The music, which seeps beyond the walls of the concert halls to connect with people, interact with the public space and captivate the listeners during the charming August evenings.
In accordance to well-established tradition, the Forest Opera will formally initiate the festival by hosting the cycle of four concerts representing varied music genres. The Grand Opera Gala will take place on Wednesday, August 3 at 8 p.m., with Aleksandra Kurzak set to be the brightest star of the Opening Concert. The most prominent Polish soprano regularly performs in the greatest opera houses all around the world, Metropolitan Opera House New York, the Royal Opera House, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Vienesse Theater an der Wien as well as Wiener Staatsoper being just some of them. The most beautiful arias from operas by Donizetti, Puccini and Bizet are sure to cater for evening delight. Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot led by Maestro Wojciech Rajski will complement the performance of the great diva.
Staying faithful to the heterogeneous identity of the festival, Friday, August 5 will introduce quite different atmosphere. Under picturesque canvas of the Terrace at Sopot Aquapark, Film Music Concert will take place at 8 p.m., with Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, outstanding Oscar-winning Polish composer known for “Finding Neverland” as our special guest. With the pieces from the most wonderful Hollywood productions set to be performed live, connoisseurs of the genre are sure in for a treat.
The admirers of more classical repertoire will undoubtedly be attracted to the Music of the Baroque Concert. The magnificent musicians of La Stagione Frankfurt are going to help the audience immerse itself into the fascinating world of the seventeenth century. The group will perform on Saturday, August 6 at 8 p.m., at St. George’s Church in Sopot. That remarkable evening is an opportunity for the audience to discover the unusual capacity of flute in virtuosic concerts of baroque music.
The festival will be concluded with an exceptional open-air concert: “Vivaldi contra Piazzolla” will take place on Monday, August 8 at 8:30 p.m. The beach nearby the Sopot’s Theatre on the Beach will become the venue of a wonderful spectacle, with audience getting an unique opportunity to confront two cycles of “Four Seasons” thanks to interpretation of two magnificent, if extremely different composers, the Italian, Antonio Vivaldi and Argentinian virtuoso of tango, one of a kind Astora Piazzolli. As in previous years, The Final Concert will be free of admission, as all the music lovers are welcome to join us to contemplate the final moments of the festival together.
