SOPOT CLASSIC 2014 – On the Wave of Classical Music

This year, for the fourth time in a row, the City of Sopot invites all the music lovers to participate in concerts of the 4th International Music Festival Sopot Classic. This artistic project is remarkable because of a few factors: an original programme, passionate artists as well as composers and performers from the younger generation.

The opening concert of the Festival will be a celebration of the greatest works of the classical composer and also the precursor of Romanticism in music – Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert, which will take place in the Forest Opera on August 3 will be filled with compositions of the Master, and at the end of the evening, together with soloists and the Polish Chamber Choir, one will be able to hear famous Symphony No. 9 in d minor. The concert will be conducted by maestro Gabriel Chmura. This event will also be an opportunity to get acquainted with the events of life and Beethoven’s sources of inspiration through narration provided by an excellent actor, Krzysztof Gosztyła.

Since its very beginning, the Festival promotes and encourages young composers and promotes the achievements of the new Polish music. The program of the second concert, which will take place on August 6 at the Concert Hall of the PCPO Sopot, refers to the Warsaw Autumn Festival and has been proposed by the board of the largest festivals of contemporary Polish music. Performers, next to the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Sopot, will be highly acclaimed clarinetists Krzysztof Zbijowski and Andrzej Wojciechowski. The concert will be conducted by Rodrigo Tomillo.

The third concert of the Festival is a musical meeting of the orchestra and recognized cellist István Várdai who accepted the invitation of the Director of the Festival, Maestro Wojciech Rajski. The artists will present the Cello Concerto in C major by Joseph Haydn, and Mozart’s Prague Symphony. The concert will be conducted by Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski.

During the Final Concert the audience will also hear the classics, but of a completely different character. At the invitation of the Festival the concert will be attended by a great German clarinetist Wolfgang Meyer who, together with the orchestra, will play Clarinet Concerto in A major by W. A. Mozart. Conducted by Paweł Przytocki the orchestra will also perform the well-known Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony.

Sopot Classic Festival will be held on 3-10 August 2014, being the musical proposition not only for the lovers of classical music, but also for all those who want to get acquainted with the music in its best.

The main sponsor of the festival and a patron of the orchestra is Energa Group.
